Two-Story Stone House in Çanakkale for a Family Relocating from Istanbul

Phrats designs a two-story stone house in a rural village area of Çanakkale, tailored for a family transitioning from Istanbul. The design embraces local materials and architectural traditions while introducing a modern interpretation that responds to contemporary living needs and the natural landscape.

The house is built with locally sourced stone, offering a strong connection to the region’s history and environment. The use of stone as the primary building material is balanced with modern touches, such as sleek glazing, clean lines, and minimalist detailing, creating a harmonious fusion of old and new. The result is a timeless structure that stands as a respectful nod to traditional village homes while offering a fresh, modern living experience.

The two-story design allows for generous living spaces. The ground floor features an open-plan layout with a spacious living room, dining area, and kitchen that seamlessly connect to the outdoor spaces. Large windows and sliding doors open to a private garden, creating a sense of fluidity between the interior and exterior. Upstairs, the bedrooms are designed to offer both privacy and comfort, with views of the surrounding countryside and the village below.

The landscape design is integral to the home’s overall vision, with a garden that uses local plants and materials to further integrate the house into its natural setting. The outdoor areas are designed to be enjoyed throughout the year, with shaded terraces and seating areas that invite relaxation and social interaction.

This design combines modernity with tradition, creating a home that is both rooted in the local context and attuned to the needs of a contemporary family. Phrats’ approach reflects a deep understanding of place, culture, and lifestyle, resulting in a home that offers comfort, functionality, and a strong sense of belonging in the village of Çanakkale.
