Summer House for DS
Seasonal Home in a Summer Village Area of Çanakkale
Phrats designs a seasonal home situated in a summer village area near Çanakkale, tailored to the needs of three distinct users, with a thoughtful approach to space that accommodates each user’s requirements while maintaining a cohesive overall design. The structure is composed of four distinct masses arranged across the parcel, each serving a specific purpose and responding to the site’s unique conditions.
Drawing from local architectural traditions, the design integrates features such as sloping walls and a carefully curated landscape, enriching the overall spatial experience. The use of local materials and textures, particularly in the brick and stone finishes, reinforces the connection to the surrounding environment and vernacular architecture.
Each of the four volumes responds to the differing needs of the users—providing private, shared, and transitional spaces, ensuring both individual privacy and communal interaction. The clever arrangement of these volumes allows for ample natural light and ventilation while maintaining a sense of intimacy and openness.
The garden and landscape play a significant role in the design, extending the living spaces outdoors. Terraces, patios, and shaded areas create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living, enhancing the sense of tranquility that defines this seasonal retreat. The careful integration of planting and natural features strengthens the connection between the built environment and the landscape, encouraging a balanced relationship between architecture and nature.
Through this design, Phrats delivers a flexible and context-sensitive seasonal home that respects local traditions while embracing modern living needs, creating a space that celebrates both privacy and community within the natural landscape of Çanakkale.
